How Logistics Is Different Than Transportation

Let’s look at transport and logistics management in a metaphorical sense. Think about the details of a personal trip and the complex logistics behind point A to point B. Getting on the plane and getting off the plane are not the only parts of a trip. For example, we need a mode of transportation to get to the airport, such as a personal car or public transportation, they are also key considerations in personal travel.
In addition, you may have stopovers, which means you will have to sit and wait in airport lounges. Finally, think about all the work that was done to get the tickets, what it takes for the staff to make your flight take place, etc. Then, the question arises: “What is transport and logistics management? And are they the same? ”
Logistics And Transport: Similarities
Talking about logistics and transportation, it is very common for both terms to be confused with each other. This happens, mainly, in those people who do not actively work in the logistics sector. Because the majority of people only contemplate the final phase of the logistics processes, that referring to the transport and delivery of orders to the final customer, it is common for this majority of people to identify logistics and transport as a single activity. However, as we have seen, in reality, transport is only one of the phases that are part of the logistics process, which would include all the activities related to the supply of goods.
Difference Between Logistics And Transportation
Another of the substantial differences between logistics and transport lies in how each company focuses its business on the end customer, and more specifically on the satisfaction of the end customer. In the case of transport companies, their activity is considered complete when the order arrives at its destination. However, in the case of logistics companies, their activity is not limited to the delivery of orders in a timely manner, but they also take into account how the customer values the experience as a whole. This gives the logistics companies a fundamental competitive and strategic advantage over the transport companies since it allows them to loyalty to their clientele and obtains return feedback that they can use to constantly improve their service.
